Chick Hearn is an absolute icon to Lakers fans. He died from a tragic accident in 2002 (at the age of 86) but he was the iconic broadcaster of the Lakers basketball events on radio and TV for more than 35 years. On May 9, 1991, Hearn became only the third broadcaster to ever be inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame Springfield, Massachusetts.In honor of his contributions to the Los Angeles Lakers, both the Lakers and the city of Los Angeles renamed a portion of West 11th Street between Figueroa Street and Georgia Street to Chick Hearn Court. This street currently runs alongside Staples Center's main entrance. Hearn also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On April 27, 2010, Chick Hearn was honored with a bronze statue at Star Plaza outside Staples Center. A chair next to Hearn's statue behind the desk with the Lakers' logo is a part of the statue so his fans can sit down to have their pictures taken.
He will be dearly missed, always.
